New direction needed for SAN 4
Entry posted on Mar 08 by Scott Russell , tagged News

Hi all, it's time to say that SAN needs a new direction.

A group like this can only function if it's built on a community which engages in dialogue, has discussions and shares ideas. There's been precious little of any of that here, or on the Facebook page. I can't make the group do anything, I can only provide the focus and the platform.

Last year I launched a questionnaire to get your opinions on what we should do with the group. Some responded, many didn't. I arranged a meeting to discuss this and received four RSVP's. I invited responses for speakers for a meeting to start the year, I got one.

Everything this group does is subsidised or sponsored. All the meetings, giveaways and promotions are donations of goods, time and goodwill. Without an engaged community, I can't demonstrate to anyone (let alone Adobe who provide us with software and other material) that it's worth making that effort.

So here's the thing. If no-one's interested in keeping this group going, I'll stop making the effort to recruit new members, do promotion, arrange deals to host meetings and answering queries. If all people are looking for is a one-way street of updates and links, I invite you to join me at my own blog and Facebook page where I do all that and more.

If you are interested in this group, all you need to do is engage with it and each other. Post a comment, start a discussion, offer to host a meeting if you have the resources. You don't need permission, everyone has access, just start. I still believe that this is fundamentally worthwhile but I can't make anybody contribute. If responses continue as they have been, I will assume there's no interest in continuing.

Thanks for reading this.

I am always, and have always been, open to suggestions.

I'm sorry to announce that Michelle Jamieson, recently stepped down from her role as co-manager of the group. I'd like to thank her for the effort she put into promoting the group and arranging meetings and contacts in Glasgow.
